CHANGING HATS FROM CFO TO CEO

I was delighted to recently sit down with Martin Nicholas, CEO of Greencross. ASX listed, Greencross is Australasia’s largest integrated consumer facing pet care company with over 300 veterinary clinics and pet specialty retail stores with revenues of $800m pa.

Martin was kind enough to share his varied career journey through different businesses and different Countries. He highlighted the importance of variety, “keep asking questions” both to discover and learn more as an emerging Executive leader. We explored his transition from Group CFO to CEO which occurred 18 months ago, and the challenges he faced in those early days of changing hats.

I was intrigued to hear about the advice that Martin would provide to other CFO stepping up (and their relationship with their new CFO and Exec team) and for any CFO now working for a previous CFO. It was very evident that Martin is extremely passionate about the business, the people and customers (and their animals).
